As an individual choice, I think I would prefer the Xenomorph one but as an army decision, I think 100+ purely black painted models are boring to paint and will look at an arm's length like a huge black blob.

Ah, that is a blast from my past. The 3rd edition Codex while being more like a pamphlet, was full of greatness. Customisation of Tyranid Creatures, and a wealth of colour schemes. I agree, GW might be back some of these classics. Preferred Enemy (choosing Tyranids as the keyword) would, therefore, be a great option, as would Indomitable for the stoic determination they showed when faced with the numberless hordes of Tyranids.
